The journey begins!

Hi, my name is Laura and this is my first blog! My husband, Kevin, and I have some very exciting things going on in our lives and I decided to try a blog.  We are preparing our journey from Cranberry Township where we currently live and are building a brand new Milan house with Ryan homes.

We just broke ground on the house last week (2/19/13) and the house is projected to be completed by May 17.  Pretty cut and dry, right?  Well not so much.  The other BIG news in our lives is that we have our first baby on the way!  The due date?  June 9!!  The plot thickens!  I decided I can use this blog to not only document our journey in building the new house to share with those who might be interested, but we will all be on the edge of our seats to see if we are able to move into this house before the baby comes - that is the plan!

Needless to say it's been a busy, stressful and exciting past few months and the "journey" really began a while ago!  It was in early January when we abandoned the idea of buying a house and decided to build.  Our area is a total sellers market and any decent house would fly off the market within a day.  We were finding nothing! So we decided to take the plunge and build a house.  From the time we visited the lot, we found out it was the last one left, so we put a hold on the house and had only 5 days to decide what to do!  Since then (under a 2 month period), things have been moving at warp speed.  We picked out our options (see below), met with the loan officer for pre-approval, talked with our bank, put our current townhouse up for sale AND got an offer, broke ground on the new house- and all of that during my busiest work season of the year.  No turning back now! I do have to give a huge shout out to our families who have been absolutely incredible through this process and i can't thank them enough for their help, love and support through this process. We are SOOO lucky to have them!

Also since then, we found out we're having a baby BOY!!  We are just thrilled!  now when I think of this house, all I can picture is how we are going to decorate the baby's nursery (then I remember the short turnaround time we'll have) and living in this house with our new little one!

So let's get on with the house.  My big debate on if I wanted to start a blog is that it's really exposing ourselves with what we picked with this house.  I've always said I am not the best at interior decorating, so I'm really nervous how everything is going to look in the end.  However, at the same time I still want Kevin and I to pick everything so it really reflects us.  So here goes!

Interior options: from left to right - the white cabinets are for the bathrooms with the flooring below. The carpet to the right will be the main carpet throughout the whole house.  The little swatch next to that is the kitchen counters and the kitchen cabinets next to that. The "Ebony" wood is the stair railings followed by the kitchen flooring next to that and an upgraded carpet we picked for the family room.

Exterior Options:  Graphite Grey siding with Silvermist accent siding and PA Sierra Fieldstone stone  accent and white trim.  The shudders are dark berry (which I'm so excited about!) and a Maroon door.  Fingers crossed that this all looks good!  In the second picture, you'll see that we didn't pick these out of thin air...these are actual color schemes where you pick the entire set.  So there are professionals that make sure your schemes will work!!

Here is what the exterior is supposed to look like (these are not our color or stone options though).  Our house will be the mirror image of this.

Ground Breaking!!  It's official...heeeere we go!!!

Now that you are all up to speed, I look forward to continue making posts as this house gets built before our eyes!  Thanks to all those who decided to read this:)  Even if no one reads this, I think it'll be fun to have this documented for ourselves to go through and see the process.  Talk to you soon!

  1. Hi what development is this? We are building in gibsonia and I'd like to look at the exterior. Do you know if anyone has the autumn buckeye or conestoga cobblestone exterior in your neighborhood?
